DAY FORTY: Tuesday 9th February  2021:

If I were today to write everything that exploded into my had in my 4am moment today that alone would use up my one million words in my 2021 challenge but more of that later. I want to start by sharing something which to me was very touching and important.

Yesterday I was out and about delivering SMILE cards and envelopes, taking Doggie Jake to the vet and buying bits and pieced of stationery needed for the SMILES. I drove passed an undertakers, funeral director. The doors to an outbuilding were open showing a stack of around twenty coffins, those doors were open to allow more coffins to be unloaded from a large van. One particular coffin caught my eye as I drove past, it was a deep mahogany red. Whose resting place will that be ?

I am constantly upset by the way our country is failing to respect those who are dying from china virus, that coffin may be for one of the pandemic’s victims or it could be for a person who died from nothing at all associated with the virus but the point is the virus will deny a proper funeral and a celebration of the person’s life.

Yesterday there were 14,104 new cases and 333 deaths. Locally 48 and new cases and 3 deaths.  Only three hundred and thirty-three new deaths. What a horrible thing to say ! We can be pleased and even celebrate the fact that figures are falling but NEVER use the word ONLY. It does not mater if it is three or three hundred and thirty-three, each is a real person.

When my time capsule is opened on 1st January 2121 I hope that those who will read these words will comprehend the shame within our society, a shame of disrespect void of love and understanding.

SMILE OF THE DAY: Maybe not tonight or the next day, but everything is going to be OK.

That is true but ONLY if we make it that way.

Yesterday I wrote 4,197 words bringing my challenge to 305,052 in total. I am looking to hit half a million words as soon as possible, I want to change my target for the year from one million words to AT LEASE one million words so half a million will be a bit of a milestone. 194, 948 words to go. If I can average 3,500 words a day that will take 56 days to achieve. That will be Thursday 6th April, every day I can shave off that target will be cool. When I reach half a million words I’ll tell you my plan for the next million and a half Watch this space.

I took my teenage self into a strange situation as I wrote yesterday 597 words for THE SECRET DIARY OF AN OLD MAN AGED THIRTEEN AND THREE QUARTERS. I paused as I needed a way to provide an escape route. At 4am today that escape route came into my head and today I will write it.

1,250 words for BEHIND THE NOOSE. Today I am going to be writing about Fred and Rose West. I then have to add to the discussion and debate two more cases before summing up and asking readers to form their own opinions. I would like to finish and publish the book by the week-end. 20,842 words so far, another ten thousand I am thinking.

Enough of that. Let’s join Wikipedia for ON THIS DAY:

9th February 1957: Prime Minister Anthony Eden resigns following his failure to retake the Suez Canal from Egypt.

9th February 1960: Construction begins on the Aswan Dam. I have been to the dam, it is something special to see.

9th February 2007: Apple introduced the iPhone. BAD DAY !

9th February 1982: Catherine Duchess of Cambridge born.

It was announced yesterday that the BBC TV licence fee is to go up in cost !  Obscene ! CLOSE THE BBC that’s what I say. I hope when my time capsule is opened the bbc will be something deep in history.

I wrote another page for my 2022 Almanac of Smiles, it’s not quite doing what I want it to achieve. I will try again today but before then I am going back to my story THE SECRET DIARY OF AN OLD MAN AGED THIRTEEN AND THREE QUARTERS to lead Myself through that escape route.

So let’s have SMILE OF THE DAY AGAIN then I’ll sign off.

Maybe not tonight or the next day, but everything is going to be OK.

Have a GREAT SMILING DAY. Speak again tomorrow.

Dave
