Time to be positive
DAY SIX: Wednesday 6th January 2021:
On this scale how are you feeling right now about China Virus ?
I’M OK WITH IT ALL – SCARED - FRIGHTENED – TERRIFIED – END OF THE WORLD IS COMING
I am somewhere between scared and frightened.
Did you see last night’s briefing ? Did you see how Prime Minister Boris Johnson waffled and burbled his way through the questions ?
No need for a scale, simply do you trust the government to take us successfully through this china virus pandemic ? The answer I am sure is a universal NO ! Would the likes of Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher have performed the way Boris Johnson is ?
When they speak on TV I am usually happy and reassured by what the scientists say but last night I got the feeling they did not fully understand what they were saying and did not have complete confidence in themselves.
I am seventy years old, still a teenager at heart but I no longer have the physical fitness I once had. If I need minor medical attention from my GP I am not going to get it. GP surgeries think they can poke a stethoscope down a phone line and treat a patient.
Not looking good !
Sixty thousand nine hundred and sixteen more cases yesterday of china virus ! Another eight hundred and thirty deaths.
Allow me now to share our Smile Of The Day:
Tough times never last
But tough people do !
Stay positive.
On a scale of one to ten how do you trust that statement ? Me ? I trust it at number eleven !
If everyone does their bit to support those around them to be positive we will get through this. Now in lockdown those around them may I suggest means on-line. On-line may be great for shopping but silly things like facebook are no substitute at all for real people in real time. However, with lock down face to face and physical hugs are a thing of the past. We need to inject love into the internet and hug people every minute of every day.
Tough times never last
But tough people do !
Stay positive.
On this day :
What was happening on 6th January ?
6th January 1950 – The United Kingdom recognises the
Peoples Republic of China ! If you ask
me that was a numb scull thing to have done.
6th January 1951 – Things looking bad in the Korean
War. An estimated 1,300 South Korean communist sympathisers are slaughtered.
6th January 1967 – Vietnam War United States Marine Corps launch Operation Deckhouse Fire in the Kekong River Delta.
Who was born on 6th January ?
1955 – Rowan Atkinson – cool
1956 – Justin Welby – a pontificating vicar
1960 – Nigella Lawson – daughter of politician Nigel Lawson she cooks up the odd bit of food and makes a fortune from it
On this day 6th January 1993 Rudolf Nureyev – genius ballet dance left us aged forty-five.
On this day yesterday I wrote a total of three thousand, nine
hundred and fifty-three words in my 2021 one million word challenge. These were
contained within:
Diary 1,697
By The Pricking Of My Thumbs 229 words
Jukebox Jury 2,740 words
Who Needs A Pub To Have a Quiz 287 words
Total book sales since 1st January 2021 = 76
I am really buzzing with Juke Box Jury, yesterday I talked about 1967 and The Summer of Love. Although the horrors of The Vietnam War gave rise to The Summer of Love the music was fantastic and is still loved today. Today I am going to have fun with music from the Eurovision Song Contest.
Trying to write Juke Box Jury and By The Pricking Of My Thumbs simultaneously is proving hard. Jukebox Jury is fun and exciting while By The Pricking Of My Thumbs needs to be dark and sinister. I think I am going to set that aside until I have finished playing the jukebox. I am just about one third of the way through the book so another week perhaps to finish it. I would kind of like to finish and publish it on Sunday, four days away. Possible.
Yesterday I added another quiz to the pub and am working now on what I am calling Legendary British Industries. See what you make of this quiz:

I started a wordsearch yesterday which is for my two granddaughters, it is centred round the fairy stories of Hans Christian Anderson. Today I will finish it and post copies to them.
Next week our Smile Cards and NHS Quiz is going to The Churchill Hospital in Oxford, week beginning Monday 18th January I think we should send copies to Great Ormand Street Hospital and include this wordsearch for the children.
The wordseach has given me an idea for another book, I don’t have a title for it yet but it will be a fairy s tory for grown ups ! We’ll see.
The quiz for the Dreamsai boxes are all printed and waiting to be put into envelopes along with some smilie stickers. I’ll probably sit and do that while I watch TV this evening.
One thing I have got to do today is to sort out the mess of our website. I have writing web pages but it has to be done. Tomorrow I will tell you if I did it or not.
Speak again then
Dave
