Do you need a hug ? Right now I do !
DAY TWENTY-SIX: Tuesday 26th January 2021:
I am going to open today with SMILE OF THE DAY. Right now I am in need of this myself.
HUGS ARE ACTUALLY SO UNDERRATED, ESPECIALLY THOSE HUGS THAT ARE SO TIGHT YOU CAN LITERALLY FEEL THE OTHER PERSON’S HEATBEAT AND FOR A MOMENT EVERYTHING FEELS SO CALM AND SAFE LIKE NOTHING CAN HURT YOU.
YES, I need a huge hug right now a METAPHORICAL hug of course and metaphors are not subject to social distancing. You know what I mean. BUT the hug I need is tiny compared to the HUG so many people so urgently need, hugs of love and support, hugs of thanks and of deep, deep gratitude.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL YOU HUG TODAY ?
Can I share details of some hugs I want to give this morning HUGS I WANT TO GIVE ON YOUR BEHALF.
I am going to see the homeless friend we have outside Morrissons Supermarket. Yesterday he and I spoke, he told me his story which is private so I am not going to share it. Within this story there is failure on the part of Milton Keynes Council but the failure is not on a practical lever, it is on a failure to care, to understand and to hug a vulnerable person. Our friend has a way out, he just needs love and support as he gets through the next couple of months. Today I am going to take him twenty of our SMILE cards and ask him to hand then out to passers by.
SMILE CARDS WHICH READ:
YOU THERE – the one reading this
I want you I want you to SMILE
SMILE because you are beautiful
because you are amazing
because you’re unique
because you can
because tomorrow is a new day
because no matter what you think,
someone loves you
SMILE because you deserve to
In these hard times our pets: cats and dogs, pets of all kinds, our friends who live in the garden: birds, squirrels and so much wild life are GIVING love to we mere humans in these times.
Yesterday I had to take my Jake – Jake the dog, Jake the dog there’s no one quite like Jake the dog – to the vet. He is getting on in years and overweight. I thought he was seriously ill and was very frightened. He is ill but within hours of calling the vet he had been examined and
prescribed medication. He will be OK.Pets give us far more HUGS than we give them.
The Food Bank is being called upon like never before to help families put food on the table. Without this where would we be ? If a family is struggling to put food on the table then how are they able to feed their loving pets. This morning I will be taking more tins of pet food within out PETS IN NEED programme to Food Bank Extra.
I have to go to the Post Office to send our Quiz Sheets and SMILE cards to this week’s featured hospital GOOD HOPE HOSPITAL in the West Midlands and to residents in FLOWERS CARE HOME.
Yesterday another 22,591 new cases and another 592 deaths. Next week I want to send some SMILE cards and hugs to staff working in our local crematorium. In my family we always run our own funerals which are not solemn events but parties, fun parties. The manager of Crownhill Crematorium will SMILE and say the beautiful location is built on a ley-line of love. IT IS. We need to send staff there some hugs of love.
SMILE OF THE DAY: Right now I am in need of this myself.
DO YOU NEED A HUG ? The best way to receive a hug is to give one.
ON THIS DAY:
26th January 1965: Hindi becomes
the official language of India. Presumably replacing English. This has to have
been a good thing.
26th January 1992 Boris Yeltsin
announces that Russia will stop targeting the USA with nuclear weapons.
I am a fan of Wikipedia and I am slowly
learning to spell it ! However, as with
every day as I go through its long list of people who were born on this day in
history, history across the past seventy years, I have not heard of a single
one of them !
26th January 1979: Nelson
Rockerfeller born in 1908 dies. Do you
know who Rockerfeller was ? No doubt you
have heard the name.
26th January 2003: Hugh Trevor-Roper born 1917 The English historian died.
WORDS: As of waking up this morning my total number of words written so far since 1st January stands at 236,720. Just 13,280 to hit quarter of a million ! Can I write that number today ? I am going to do my best.
Yesterday, I think it was yesterday, I was wondering if I could write three projects simultaneously. I can now honestly answer I can.
THE SECRET DIARY OF AN OLD MAN AGED THIRTEEN AND THREE QUARTERS: That went very well yesterday. I have in my head exactly how I am going to move from the first dream to the next. The first dream took me back to a school assembly when I was really thirteen and three quarters, today I am going to move into the roll of honour on the school assembly hall wall.
BEHIND THE NOOSE: I completed the introduction discussing the history of capital punishment in Britain. Today I am going to talk about the last woman to be executed in Britain. This is how I am starting that chapter:
Ruth
Ellis 9th October 1926 – 13th July 1955 HMP Holloway
London
The last woman to be executed in The United States of America was fifty-two year old Lisa Montgomery who was pronounced dead at 1.31am on Wednesday 13th January 2021. She was executed by lethal injection in a federal prison in the last days of Donald Trumps presidency. It is generally accepted that her mental capacity was not able to comprehend what was happening. She was tried and found guilty in 2007, somewhat longer awaiting execution than the three Sundays for repentance within the British justice system. (You may need to check these facts as it may be an execution moves Lisa Montgomery into second or third place.)
Ruth
Ellis executed on Wednesday 13th
July 1955 in Her Majesty’s Prison Holloway London was the last woman to be
executed in Great Britain.
Did Lisa Montgomery deserve to die ? What do you think ? I say no. Did Ruth Ellis deserve to die ? I say yes, yes had I been old enough in 1955 to give an opinion. I was only four year old at the time. Yes if I am asked for my opinion as I write these words sixty-five years later.
MILTON KEYNES A DISCO FOR A NEW CITY: I have
listed thirty-one tracks to play but expect to end up with around fifty. Here
is how I have started things off:
Are you an Mkeyneyan ? A what ? A Brummie comes from Birmingham. A Liverpudlian comes from Liverpool. A Mancunian comes from Manchester. A Londoner comes from London. They ALL have my sympathy, they are not Mkeyneyans ! What ? An Mkeyneyan comes from Milton Keynes. Founded as an idea in January 1967 when Harold Wilson’s government designated an area of land for the construction of a new city Milton Keynes was born.
DISCO TRACK ONE: Off you go to YouTube for our first song. Type in RED BALLOON and make sure you watch the Milton Keynes TV advert. In 1985 this was the first two minute television advert. Channel Four had just launched and was making airtime cheap.
It’s a bit special isn’t it ? If only all cities were like Milton Keynes. That was true in 1985, what about today ?
In 1985 most residents were incomers, I was an incomer moving here in 1971 from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. Was your family incomers or were your parents, grandparents born here ? If your family moved to the new city when did you all come here ? Were you born here.
Guess how many people read yesterday’s diary page. Go on have a guess ? TWO ! Big deal TWICE OVER.
I typed into a Google search the question: WHY DOES GOOGLE BLOGGER NOT WORK PROPERLY and this is one of countless replies:

Google's NEW Blogger interface does not work properly!
The tech people at Google may be regretting the notion of
revamping Blogger. Below I'm itemising
the problems I've encountered. There may be more!
If you are an ordinary reader please excuse the VITRIOL - which is included in
the hope that somebody from Google Blogger might read it!!
Below are two main faults
·
poorly managed change process
·
very poor communication and very poor design
plus a section why
the new interface is dysfunctional - which contains
·
10 points explaining what is wrong with the NEW
BLOGGER interface
I began using Google Blogger in December 2016. In the good old days I never had less than one hundred readers in a day, on several occasions I topped one thousand but now Google Blogger has screwed up people finding the platform. I honestly believe this tech giant wants it to fail and disappear simply because it can not make money from it.
I could adopt the position that writing these words every morning, 1,614 words so far today, is a case of my writing a cyber time capsule but I want more. I want to use these words to share SMILES and give hugs to those who need them in these hard times. I want to help others to write. On my doings list today I am going to write LIFE IS A NOVEL SO START WRITING, will print it off and include it when I send SMILE cards and quizzes via Dreamsai to people in need, via quizzes to schools, hospitals and care homes. I want to invite people to write their own diaries or blogs (Blog means WEB LOG) as a way to stay positive in the mad times. It can simply be a simple notebook or it can be an on-line blog which I can use this page and social media to promote. If you like to use DAVE’S DIARY as a centre point about which to orbit these diaries and blogs.
More of that tomorrow.
Right now I need to sign off, go to Amazon and buy more rolls of SMILE stickers as I am running low. I will then be off with HUGS for the post, for Pets In Need and for our homeless friend.
Speak
again tomorrow
Dave
