Britain - a nation of disrespect and shame

DAY SIXTY-FIVE: Saturday 6th March 2021:

Why is Britain such a despicable nation of disrespect and shame ?  Why is love such a rare commodity ?

When you open this tie capsule on 1st January 2121 you will not be able to look back on your ancestors with pride. For those who read today what I am writing on Saturday 6th March 2021 I hope you will be sharing my shame.

Yesterday the Health Secretary gave the nation a Downing Street Briefing. As he talked round and round in circles he FAILED to tell those who were watching what the death and new infection rates for china virus were. I went to bed for the second time in a week unable to spend time thinking of those whose lives were in sadness. This morning I find that there were five thousand, nine hundred and forty-seven new cases and two hundred and thirty-six deaths. Locally where I live there were thirty-two cases and two deaths.

The government thinks it can skip over the figures and disrespect the REAL people behind them. The Queen thinks it is OK to allow people to die each and every day without expressing sympathy to their families and loved ones.

But then came the blockbuster of shame and disrespect. Pay for public sector workers has been frozen !  Frozen for all save the NHS which is to receive an insulting 1% pay rise !  Compare this to key workers in supermarkets and other “essential” retail outlets who are receiving generous support from employers.

The conservative party does not comprehend there are REAL people at the end of its policies. The labour party fully comprehends this fact but thinks they are only there to play politics with !

POLITICS THE VOMIT OF SOCIETY.

When you read this page in 2121 please understand t he REAL people care.

SMILE OF THE DAY:  Good morning. Take a moment to count your blessings today.

Count them and share them.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what all has done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one:

Count your blessings; see what Love hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what Love hath done.

Yesterday we went to Stowe National Trust. Last summer we went twice a week, this we will do again this summer but now when it is cold rather than warm Maureen, I and little Doggie Jake go just once. Yesterday it was very cold.

On the way to Stowe I passed a dead badger in the road.

FOR A DEAD BADGER

A badger lays dead in the roadway.

Does anybody care ?  I do.

An anonymous badger lays dead in the roadway,

the victim of man’s excess

as he speeds ever faster to destroy our world.

To eliminate all species but his own.

A badger lays dead in the roadway,

right now a rotting corps.

Who was the driver who killed him ?

Driving minus care and attention.

Does he know what he has done ?

Does he know of the life he has taken ?

Does he for even one moment care ?

A dead badger rots on the roadway,

Does anybody care ?

I DO !

Poetically I know my writing is rubbish but that rubbish comes from my heart.  I am not looking to be buried in Poets Corner, my ashes are to be scattered in the beautiful parkland of Stowe. In the year 2121 come by and say hello.

That is if mankind is t ill here in one hundred years time.   I watched a fascinating documentary on television last night about Chenoble. In one hundred years time you will know what Chenoble was. In the adjacent town buildings had started to crumble and decay but nature was overtaking with trees and more.

NOT A MAN

What is the most beautiful creature on earth ?

It most certainly is NOT a man.

It could be a tiger or perhaps a swan,

but without any doubt it is not a man.

A swallow flying high in the sky,

or a dolphin dancing the waves.

It could be a squirrel playing high in the trees.

It could be a graceful fish swimming around.

What is the most beautiful creature on earth ?

It most certainly is not a man,

and not a woman either for that matter !

All this poetry stuff is becoming a bit of an obsession. He he. Yesterday I wrote 682 words within that project. Within my discussion and debate project I argued 1,060 words. Here are some of them:

THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT UNIVERSITY TUITION FEES SHOULD BE ABOLISHED:

There has not been a tongue in the cheek element to the last two discussion and debate topics, the same absence can be found here.

As the editor of this little discussion and debate collection allow me a moment to share my own higher education from 1971 to 1974.

There were no such things as tuition fees. If there had been in the early 1970’s I would bon have gone to university and few of my friends would have done so.

Leaving school at 16 years of age I actually put in four years of tax paying employment before going into higher education. Providing a student had two years of such they qualified for maximum grant. NOTE the word grant and not fees. If a student did not have maximum grant such was paid termly at a lower rate with parents expected to make up the difference.

Tuition was free, just as it was in school.  Accommodation was free and that included a weekly change of bedding and towels. Every morning a cleaner came into the study bedroom to ensure all was perfect.  It was not part of their job description but they would make a student’s bed.

Meals were free. Breakfast which few ever got out of bed to eat  but there were cereals and a full English. Lunch was a two course meal with a choice of hot or cold food. Evening meal was a four course meal: starter, main course, desert and cheese board. There was a vast array of chesses, biscuits and bread which students were invited to not only eat with their meal but to also take back to their study bedrooms for midnight feasts. Nobody ever went hungry !

On top of all this was the grant, money to buy the odd book, money to buy pens and paper, money to spend in the college bar. I didn’t smoke but there was spare cash in the grant for those who did !

Compare that with today !  A student reading these words will think I have flipped my lid and turned memory upside down but that is the way it was.

Today there are too many universities and too many places charging fees. When I left school I entered a retain management training scheme. Providing I had enough GCE O’Levels anyone could join, the store then trained its employees the way they wanted them. Today  a degree would be needed. Which is the better.

To be a policeman today you need first to have a degree. Why ?

When I became a teacher I spent three years training for the job. Today any old degree will do providing the student remains for an extra year PAYING TUITION FEES for a little teaching top up.

I once discussed this situation with a professor at one of our major universities. He explained that so many attending university were wasting their time and would be better being trained and learning on the job.

This country needs a total reform of higher education within which: THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT UNIVERSITY TUITION FEES SHOULD BE ABOLISHED:

No tongue in the cheek there. What do you believe ? How will you vote ?

With the diary page that brought yesterday’s writing effort to 3,980 words and a total of 455,733 words since January.

Today I have three more topics within my discussion and debate project:

THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT THE POP MUSIC INDUSTRY NEEDS TO BE REVIVED:

THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT THERE SHOULD BE 500% VAT CHARGED ON ALL MEAT PRODUCTS:

THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT THE FONT TIMES NEW ROMAN SHOULD BE MADE ILLEGAL TO USE:

I am planning to write those sections and published the finished work later today .

I am rambling a bit aren’t I ? let’s check out what was going on, ON THIS DAY.

6th March 2020:  George Malenkov succeeds Joseph Stalin and Premier of The Soviet Union and First Secretary of The Communist Party of The Soviet Union.

6th March 1957: Ghana becomes the first Sub-Saharan country to gain independence from Britain. WELL DONE GHANA !

6th March 1967: Joseph Stalin’s daughter defects to The United States.

6th March 1987: The ferry Herald Of Free Enterprise capsizes on about ninety seconds killing one hundred and ninety-three people.

6th March 1961: George Formby, born 1904, dies.

And so that’s that !

Good morning. Take a moment to count your blessings today.

Count them and share them.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what all has done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one:

Count your blessings; see what Love hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what Love hath done.

Catch up again tomorrow

Dave
