You are never too old .....
DAY THIRTY-EIGHT: Sunday 7th February 2021:
I have in past daily editions of my diary spoken about my 4am moment. 4am as I am starting to wake up and ideas come into my head, they explode and demand I get out of bed and start working on them.
It must have been around 11pm yesterday when something came into my mind, I then dreamed about it all night long !
Do you know what Old Moore’s Almanac is ? Old Moore's Almanac is an almanac which has been published for nearly two and a half centuries. OK for those who do not know what an almanac is allow Wikipedia to put you right. You go and check it out for yourself !
I have not yet come up with the right title but I have been playing around with an idea to publish an Almanac of SMILES for 2022. There would have to be a page for each of the three hundred and sixty-five days in the year which means a lot of work. As each day in 2021 goes by and I put off starting work on the project its possibility becomes more and more remote. However, I have decided to give this method of working a try. When I have finished writing this daily diary entry for my time capsule I will write the almanac entry for the same day one year on. So when I have finished this page I will start working on MONDAY 7th FEBRUARY 2022. Yep I have thirty-six days which have past that will have to be caught up and I will need to publish the almanac some time in November but, the thing is, once I have started and the momentum builds I believe I can overcome that problem and it won’t be a problem.
Does that make sense ?
SMILE OF THE DAY: You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream.
That’s a bit special isn’t it ? I am going to print that out and send it to residents in Flowers Care Home and to Dreamsai to include in its food parcels for the vulnerable. I think I need to come up with a second version of the SMILE: You are never too young to have a goal and never too young to dream some special things for your life.
I have been getting very angry and have a number of times this month expressed my shame at the way our nation is disrespecting those who every day are contained within the death figures for china virus. We are disrespecting these beautiful people because we are failing to respect them. Yesterday I set out a bit of a plan to get the media onboard but I am not certain the media would want to bother. Perhaps, perhaps not. However, within my almanac I will set up each day an area of remembrance for those behind the figures.
Obviously I will have ON THIS DAY as
part of the almanac and will develop that I am sharing here each day but for
today on Dave’s Diary here is ON THIS DAY.
7th February 1990: The Soviet Union
is dissolved.
7th February 1991: The IRA launches
a mortar attack on 10 Downing Street.
7th February 2013: The US state of
Mississippi officially certifies the Thirteenth amendment becoming the last
state to approve the abolition of slavery. WHAT !
7th February 1962: Eddie Izzard was
born.
7th February 2019 Albert Finney who was born in 1936 died.
My live interview on BBC Radio went well yesterday and while I did not push myself forward the presenter invited listeners to check out my bookshelf. THANK YOU BBC but yesterday was actually a blank day for sales. We will have to wait and see what today brings. Within the almanac I will have BOOK OF THE WEEK, not so much to promote my writing but to try to inspire others to write for themselves. I have thirty-five on my bookshelf so need another twenty written and published on Amazon by November.
Yesterday I wrote another 4,695 words bringing my total for 2021 so far to 295,777. The majority of those words yesterday were within my discussion and debate work BEHIND THE NOOSE. I really am enjoying, if that is the right word, debating the rights and wrongs of capital punishment. Today I will be writing about The Moors Murders. I have sketched out a schedule for the remainder of the writing which will see the book being published on Friday 12th February.
For my other work currently under construction THE SECRET DIARY OF AN OLD MAN AGED THIRTEEN AND THREE QUARTERS I only wrote 124 words. It’s not a case of writer’s block but more writer’s mist. I know where I am going with the story but cannot right now clearly see my way through.
I was asked yesterday to do a bit of DJing on the radio, I introduced ABC by The Jackson Five. Being a radio dj is far from unfamiliar territory for me but I’ll not go there. Within the almanac I will share the top ten chart for each day. I will start with 1955 and the dawn of rock and roll then move forward each day one year until 1990 then go back again and start over. Does that make sense ?
I am keen to ger started on the almanac page for Monday 7th February 2020 so I guess I need to bring today’s edition of Dave’s Diary to an end. I will do that with:
SMILE OF THE DAY: You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream.
And never forget that a SMILE is the vaccination for sadness. Get out and vaccinate as many people as you can.
Speak again tomorro
Dave
